Farmhouse Decorating, Our Farmhouse

{Modern} Farmhouse Front Entry

The latest project over here at Little by Little Farmhouse was more of an update from a previous room makeover.  Exactly one year ago, I worked on our front entrance and staircase and you can see all the before and after pictures here.  It was a very time-consuming makeover at the time as I also worked on the upstairs hallways and you can check that out here.

I will be honest now…I never really liked the color.  It’s wasn’t a bad color.  I just wasn’t feeling it in this space.  Since this front entry connects our living room and dining room, both of which have slightly different color schemes, I knew that a neutral pallet could bring them both together better.  So, that is what I set out to accomplish.

There was a little kickback from the kiddos as they get used to how things look.  I really do love them, but they don’t get a vote here.  I did tell them that I would give them the leftover paint so that they could use the color in their home someday.  No takers on that offer!

Let’s take a lot at some before pictures and if you want some really before pictures, head on over here.

Not bad, right?  Just not great like I knew it could be.  So, I dug out the last gallon of my go-to white and set to painting.  {Any and all white in our home is Sherwin-Williams Pure White color-matched in Glidden at Home Depot.}  After painting, I shopped around the house and added decor that I already owned.  {Insert hubby doing a happy dance…or maybe just giving a thumbs up!}

I never thought that I would enjoy white on my walls as much as I do.  I’ve always been one to throw color around in our previous homes.  I do think there is something to this neutral trend as it is so easy to decorate with and to change out decor for the seasons.  I’m going with it {for now} and appreciating it for how it is bringing out the character of our home and the fun vintage decor that I have been collecting.  Plus, I love the brightness of white walls!

Have a great day, friends!

      So sorry, Sarah! Your comment was put in my spam folder. 🙁 But, I found it and have properly placed it here! 🙂

  2. Your entryway looks gorgeous, Leigh! It never ceases to amaze me what a coat of paint can do for a space! The before was beautiful, but that white just really highlights all the natural woods in your home, especially in the plank flooring. Love it all!!!

      Thank you so much, Katie! I agree that the white makes the wood tones pop out and I am really crushing on black and white right now! Thanks for hopping on over! 🙂
