Farmhouse Back Door Makeover

Hello, friends!

Are you ready for another makeover?  This time I tackled a small area that is often overlooked in a home.  We tend to ignore the back entrance of our home as it may be small or we don’t think many people see it.  I don’t know about you, but I feel like this is sometimes our main entrance in the summertime.  And then everyone sees it!

In our home, this back door is right off our kitchen and I was really looking forward to this little makeover so that it would feel like the rest of the house.  Let’s get started with some before pictures:

Yup, you guessed it!  More random wallpaper!

This little coat rack wasn’t here when we purchased our home but it was quickly hung up our first fall here.  We desperately needed hooks for the kids sweatshirts and jackets.

And once again…the wallpaper was hung directly onto the sheetrock without the proper priming or painting.  Ugh was my initial reaction.  And then I had a super happy face as the wallpaper came off easily with just some gentle pulling.

I had been looking at this plastic door protector (?) for over a year and the day to finally remove it was here!

Lots and lots of little holes to fill in…

Primer time…and then on to the wall paint.  And you guessed it…my new favorite color for the walls: white!

Look!  The husband does exist!  😉  He is my power tool guy and very graciously re-hung the coat rack as well as an old mantel shelf that I had painted white.

Time for the fun part…details with some DIY!

Some free pallet boards were used to make two picture frames:

And then a little burlap joined forces with what we believe to be the lid to an 1800’s icebox chest:

Can you believe that this was found in our attic?  Eeeek…this is the stuff that makes me to do a happy dance!

And here is the ta-da moment…do you love it as much as I do?

Oh, friends, so much can be done with just a little space.  This area really is tiny…like 3′ x 3 1/2′.  White paint and a little decor can brighten up the darkest areas!  And I know that white seems like a crazy idea with kids running through constantly after playing in the mud.  It really isn’t though…a damp cloth and kid dirt can be wiped right off the walls and trim!

I so appreciate you taking the time to peek into our home and I would love to hear from you!
