Calm and Peaceful

Our living room was the first room that we started to make changes to after moving in.  It was the first room that I felt that I could add my touch to…the rest of the rooms were too overwhelming at the time.

You can read all about the process of making over this room here.

Fast forward a year, and this room has come quite far.  We love the brightness that the white shiplap has added to this space.  The room always has a calm and relaxing feel to it.  And even moreso now, with the addition of a rug and some decor on the walls.

This beautiful rug is from nuLOOM and we couldn’t be happier with the pattern, coloring, and feel of this rug.

All of the floors in our home are either hard wood or tile, so a little softness under our feet is so very welcome.

And now that our rattan chairs are in our dining room, we have moved our 8 foot pew into this room!

Gallery walls have always been a stumbling block for me.  And this one was no exception.  This time though, the extra hurdle was to create this wall with only the items that I already own.

These frames were ones that I already had and I simply added old hymnal pages to the two smaller frames and a reproduction Norman Rockwell to the other.  And the two Dutch delft tiles were gifts: one from a college friend 20 years ago and the other used to hang in my grandmother’s home.

I discovered this old window frame in our attic a little while back and it was begging to be displayed in all it’s crooked glory!

I picked up this vintage map of the area that we live in over the summer for $1!

Our family really enjoys our time in this room.  It really is a calming and peaceful room.  We do our morning family worship and our homeschool read alouds in this room every single weekday.  And the kids and dog especially like to lounge on the rug in front of the woodstove on these chilly fall days.

I’m sure this room will continue to grow with us, and God is teaching me to enjoy the process of building this house into our home…little by little.

Blessings, friends!

[…] This was actually one of my very first posts last spring.  Yes, it’s been on the blog the longest on this list, but that isn’t what gave it the number one ranking.  Our original living room makeover has consistently been a reader favorite throughout the year.  I personally love this room and so do our friends that stop by.  It has a very calm and peaceful cottage undertone to it.  I spent a few other days over the summer and the fall making some more tweaks to the room that you can read about here and here.
